- [09:04] <wav1> what is a 'shared intermediary' in this context: "Layers can be used to encapsulate legacy services and to protect new services from legacy clients, simplifying components by moving infrequently used functionality to a shared intermediary."

- [10:02] <mamund> wav1: not sure what you are asking about here....
- [10:04] <mamund> do you mean to ask for an example of 'shared'?
- [10:07] <mamund> fwiw, an example i use in this case is as follows:
- [10:07] <mamund> existing SOAP server was deployed some time ago
- [10:08] <mamund> several client implementations depend on it
- [10:08] <mamund> however, the group wants to move to plain HTTP implementation for this same server
- [10:08] <mamund> service!
- [10:09] <mamund> so, the group decides to stand up another server that acts as an intermediare between HTTP clients and the SOAP server.
- [10:09] <mamund> this allows an added 'layer' in the system
- [10:09] <mamund> and means the system can support both SOAP and HTTP interactions at the same time.
- [10:09] <mamund> does this help?
- [10:22] <wav1> yes
- [10:22] <wav1> i kind of thought of it that way
- [10:22] <wav1> the terminology was puzzling to me though
- [10:25] <wav1> thx
